Writings in a Flash

The following four poems were written while entertaining elder citizens at a local Retirement Home and created within a few minutes of each request, altogether within thirty minutes.

Requests

Grocery Shopping

Requested by Carol

In the car and of I go, shopping, you know

People are hungry, hungry, hungry and so,

To the grocery I travel so

Here I am, with list in hand, hoping to find

On shelf after shelf food of all kinds

Not all is there, yet I am hopeful to find

Things that are pleasing of favorable kind

Sometimes a choice to wrack my mind

This or that, whatever to find

His favorite mustard, her apple pie

Another’s special bread, I wrote down rye

Such an effort, its always a try

Family-brother & Sisters

Requested by Felecia

Recalling home, when we were young

all the troubles, all the fun

Always some to sing, and sung

with family, a choir loud to sing

Such a large family fresh to arrive

coming from elsewhere and here to strive

Community of immigrants all quite new

leaving those troubles they had been trough

Friend, yes many, to come and go

few to stay lone enough to well know

All come to survive, become happy in living

welcome to America, opportunity giving
